Overview
Learning about video game design through Unity
My goal for this project is to become comfortable using Unity, a digital tool usually used for making video games, but it can be used for other purposes as well. However, my focus will be on the game-making aspect of it.
I have always been interested in video games from an early age, starting with Pokémon on the Game Boy. Growing up, I played more games and developed an interest in all the technology behind it. This is part of the reason that I chose Computer Science as my major. It is extremely hard to create a video game through just pure coding, so I checked out some ways that I could make games with various game engines. I found out that Unity was a great free way to do that, at least for a hobbyist point of view. Unity has been the basis of a lot of popular games, including Kerbal Space Program, City Skylines, and Cuphead. Thus, I thought it would be good to start learning about and exploring my interest in, to see if I could learn more about designing and developing video games.
Of course, I don't expect my game to be as polished as the games released on the various gaming platforms, but the goal of this project is to develop a one-player video game that showcases how I've learned to use Unity.
I hope that this project will help me see what video game design is all about, to explore my interest in making games, and to gain a better understanding of the technical aspects behind video games that would be beneficial in my study of Computer Science in college.
